I don't use it, but my understanding is that the subscription gives you an additional retainer but it was badly phrased that once you have subscribed to the app, you (or rather your character) can then hire a new retainer from the in-game retainer ... WebYou get a retainer with the app, and the extra ones cost $2 per month - so the extra features on top of the retainer are closer to $3. It’s still pricey for what it is, IMO. I do -love- being able to organize my inventory though. Multi-select and send between retainers directly is great.

WebSo what the FFXIV Companion does is take a great concept and completely squander it for the idea of monetizing it. All the best features are phoned in and other apps do them better.
